Character Name: Pain & Panic
Series: Disney's Hercules
Age: 19 and 20, respectively
Brief description: Pain is a short and rather portly fellow with delusions of grandeur. As such, he takes himself very seriously, his appearance included. His dark hair is longish and falls just short of his ears when he wears it in his preferred style, parted straight down the middle and combed down wet. His eyes are rather eerily yellow as if he is always slightly jaundiced, and his irises are a very queer orange, as if they'd tried to be brown but couldn't quite manage it. Sporting a constant sunburn resulting from the unpleasant mix of very fair skin and very strong sunlight, Pain is always in some manner of discomfort and this makes him understandably irritable, so his usual expression is typically caught somewhere between a scowl and a grimace.
Panic, on the other hand, is tall, lanky, and quite prone to anxiety attacks. He keeps his stringy blond hair pulled back in a low ponytail, the end of which peters out just between his shoulder blades. Jumpy by nature, Panic's shoulders are always hunched and this gives him a rather impish quality, as if he's always plotting something. His long face doesn't help matters; Panic has a pointed chin, thin lips, a long and sharp hooked nose, and huge eyes, as jaundiced as his partner's but an acrid green rather than orange, that make him look rather constantly terrified he's been found out. His skin, though pale, doesn't burn very easily, though he has a very weak stomach and is always slightly nauseated by one thing or another, be it something rotting in the gutter, something he ate that clearly must have gone bad, or even just the thought of what would happen to him if someone knew what he was up to. Panic spends so much of his time worrying himself sick that he perpetually looks a little green around the gills.
Brief personality/strengths/weaknesses: Pain is always sort of grumpy, due to his constant discomfort, and his rather heavyset frame makes him quite clumsy and accident-prone. He isn't fast and he isn't strong; he can chase you about twelve feet before he stops to huff and puff over it all--and that's only if he hasn't tripped over his own feet and fallen flat on his face already. Pain is, however, quite strong, and has a very important strength in that he is always rather calm and enduring. His patience is nearly endless and while he may not be the smartest man alive, he takes the time to stop and make a plan before plunging into action. He isn't exactly courageous, but he is quite unafraid and it takes a significant amount of anger directed his way to shake him. Usually, a few ten-dollar words thrown into compliment form get rid of any problems he runs into.
Panic is constantly worrying about something, usually with some sort of neurotic physical accompaniment. He paces, taps his fingers, cracks his knuckles, shifts his weight and twirls his ponytail, and is very very bad at not looking suspicious. Everything could end in utter disaster at any moment, and he knows it even if no one else does. He may be fast, but he is not strong; endurance and running away is his area of expertise, especially since fighting is always so dangerous anyway. Through the paranoia and anxiety comes a rather enduring ton of common sense--Panic is the first to see the problem with a plan, or at the very least, the first to point it out for fear of personal injury. Though many of the problems he points out are just plain paranoid, many of them are not, and Panic is very good at tearing down an idea--mostly due to an overwhelming conviction that engaging in it will be the end of him and they'd all be much better off doing nothing at all. When forced, though, Panic comes through, usually with the least amount of time and effort involved, but his fears about the repercussions of failure keep him doggedly trying again and again to keep from falling short...or at least reporting it.
Brief history: Pain and Panic were originally orphans from Tartarus named Nelson and Ivan respectively. The brothers grew up together in the orphanage in Illyria, and the city is all they can remember. Best friends throughout their orphanage years, the two grew sick of wasting away never getting adopted, and they decided (or, rather, Nelson decided and convinced Ivan (and by convinced we really mean more like threatened to leave him behind to fend for himself)) to leave the orphanage and head out into the real world. Their foray resulted in their induction into the ranks of the Illyrian mafia, and they picked last names for themselves when they noticed most of the toughest baddest grunts went by their surnames. Nelson chose the surname Payne and henceforth began signing his (admittedly limited) paperwork with the surname and only his first initial, N. Payne. Following suit at his brother's urging, Ivan chose the surname Pannek, and his contract with the Illyrian mob is signed I. Pannek. The other grunts had a field day with the surnames, and were constantly misspelling them, much to Ivan's chagrin. It's been a few years now, and the two have grown to accept and even embrace their cohorts' mocking spellings, resulting in the somewhat less-than-dynamic duo, Pain & Panic.
